Broken FrontFIELD MANUAL

Engagement Ranges

Out of range, one-way, and two-way — the three states that decide who can shoot.

THE THREE RANGE STATES

Diagram: engagement flow — out of range means the attacker closes and retries; attacker-only in range is a one-way engagement; both in range is a normal two-way fight

Out of range → the attacker closes distance and retries. Attacker in range, defender not → aone-way engagement: the attacker fires every round, the defender can't return fire but stays mobile. Both in range → a normal two-way fight resolved in rounds.

LIVING ON THE ASYMMETRY

One-way engagements are how artillery and snipers dominate targets that can't reach them — engagement range exceeding the target's reach means fire without reply. Closing the distance converts a one-way fight into a two-way one.
